In the UK, a van refers to a vehicle which is generally bigger in size and one with a larger carrying capacity than a car. It is usually put to commercial purposes. This can range from carrying passengers to carrying goods. And so it is somewhat obvious that van insurance would generally attract higher premiums than a usual car. What it costs is also much influenced by the model of your van that you flaunt, and more importantly, the purpose it serves, admittedly commercial in most cases. And since a commercial van is more likely to undergo wear and tear faster due to vigorous use, it requires more maintenance and consequently higher repair costs. And this means higher premiums.
