When there is a charge off on your credit history it will dramatically lower your credit score. This will make getting new credit very hard.
On occasions when you do get approved, you will pay much higher interest rates or have to make a large down payment. This is the penalty the credit system imposes on people when they can not pay their debts.

The first, and probably the most important step is to be vigilant about protecting your personal identity and monitoring potential incursions on that identity. Protect your social security number, credit card information, and other personal data, especially during online transactions with companies you are unsure of. Make sure that you never submit information on line if the url does not begin with “https” designating a secure website.

The law allows that a bill collector can call a debtor between the hours of 08:00 am and 09:00 pm
of the debtor’s time zone.
Which simply means that if the collector is calling from the state of Texas, which is in the central time zone and the debtor lives in Florida, which is in the eastern time zone, the Texas collector may only call the debtor after 07:00 am central time and before 08:00 pm central time in order to be in compliance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).
